Japanese for the Fangirl, my latest experiment in original print designs!
I’ve had this idea for a while now, you know those posters back from high school Spanish class? The ones with random things like colors or jobs with the Spanish translation next to it? Well, I thought it’d be fun to take the same idea using Japanese with various vocab that’d interest an anime fan
Trying to decide whether I should focus on popular anime fandom phrases (yaoi, chibi, etc) or somewhat relevant objects (dress, wigs, etc) was a bit difficult. On one hand, anime fan phrases would be very relevant but most people have an idea of how to pronounce the Japanese phrase already (if heavily accented). On the other hand, phrases like cake, sparkles, ruffles, may be slightly more educational but… less relevant.
So I kind of went for a middle ground between the two for now. To avoid it being too cluttered I didn’t put on nearly as many Japanese words as I would’ve liked but… this is an experiment so we’ll see how it does at Otakon. If it does well I might do a more intensive print.
I do plan on making an otaku counterpart for my fujoshi print though! Yes, I realize both are kind of loaded words buuuut, I think in the West it’s not as big a deal.
Anyhoo, yay, nay? Critiques? Also this is kind of a WIP, I still need to get one of my Japanese savvy friends to proof-read it xD;; Also still working on the color palette, hm…
Now available as an 11x17 print at my Storenvy. Check it out~!
