Japanese for the Fangirl by DragonBeak Japanese for the Fangirl by DragonBeak
Japanese for the Fangirl, my latest experiment in original print designs!

I’ve had this idea for a while now, you know those posters back from high school Spanish class? The ones with random things like colors or jobs with the Spanish translation next to it? Well, I thought it’d be fun to take the same idea using Japanese with various vocab that’d interest an anime fan :D

Trying to decide whether I should focus on popular anime fandom phrases (yaoi, chibi, etc) or somewhat relevant objects (dress, wigs, etc) was a bit difficult. On one hand, anime fan phrases would be very relevant but most people have an idea of how to pronounce the Japanese phrase already (if heavily accented). On the other hand, phrases like cake, sparkles, ruffles, may be slightly more educational but… less relevant.

So I kind of went for a middle ground between the two for now. To avoid it being too cluttered I didn’t put on nearly as many Japanese words as I would’ve liked but… this is an experiment so we’ll see how it does at Otakon. If it does well I might do a more intensive print.

I do plan on making an otaku counterpart for my fujoshi print though! Yes, I realize both are kind of loaded words buuuut, I think in the West it’s not as big a deal.

Anyhoo, yay, nay? Critiques? Also this is kind of a WIP, I still need to get one of my Japanese savvy friends to proof-read it xD;; Also still working on the color palette, hm…

:boogie: Now available as an 11x17 print at my Storenvy. Check it out~!

Heavily resisting the urge to bash on the weeaboo-ness...

:iconmadlynotimpressedplz: Knows it's a troll... but still gets pissed of.... :iconwtfisthatplz:

Tolerance is fading! The dam has broken!

God damn weeaboos get out of my fandom! You are the bane of my existence!

Stop saying fucking :iconchuplz: :iconsaysplz: 'KAWAIII NEKO UGUU DESU NEE~~~~~'

You don't know Japanese because you know the word for cute, cat, a fucking sound effect, it is, and isn't it! I'm learning the God forsaken language and it's hard as fuck! But guess what, I'm actually doing it! Like GRAMMAR and KANJI! Do you know how fucking hard it is to learn kanji? FUCKING HARD! Kimono go on left over right! There is no plural in Japanese! The Japanese culture does not only consist of anime!

Now stop ruining my love for anime, manga, Japan, and yaoi! FUUUUUUUUUUUU :iconimhorrifiedplz:

Sorry, I went on a huge rant there. Very good troll by the way, just very believable. Also I really like your other artworks. ^^;

Well you talk about it being "educational" in the AD, but I think we're trying to avoid teaching obnoxious fangirls more words to add to their slurry of broken Japanese phrases.

I think maybe an actual phrase or two might make it better, but I really don't know.

JUST TOSSIN' IN MAH 2 RUSTY PENNIES ON THE MATTER.

I used a lot of phrases they'd probably already be familiar with XD;;

But I figured by showing some kanji, katakana, etc, and not just the rough pronunciation in Latin letters it could help spur some interest in learning more about the language by introducing the original script... in some round about way in my head.

And because it's meant to be more of a "just for fun" chart, that's why I didn't feature actual phrases like "thank you" or "good morning." Also because I figured there are probably already educational posters in the market with actual conversational Japanese.

But your two cents are taken! I'll keep it in mind for perhaps a future project. It all depends on how well this one goes O:
