Lorina the Hostess

Whew, so here is some more experimentation in dragon character design. I think I'm gonna have to accept the fact that I'm more of an anthro artist than an anime one. Just, whenever I am trying to draw anime, I feel like... I'm copying something I don't like and ending up with ugly drawings. Oh well.

But yes, here's Lorina again [link] this time with her color scheme a lot closer to what I originally intended. And instead of dressing her in modern Japanese garb, I decided to go with some traditional Chinese dress. (Similar to anime, I feel more comfortable taking from my parent's culture than stealing from the Japanese.) Took some inspiration from this book filled with Chinese paintings that my aunt bought for me from China once. I think I prefer this second try much better, not just with the colors but her outfit as well.

I've sort of been dabbling with the idea of a story that involved anthromorphic dragons as they ran a slightly zany restaurant. But so far, all I've got for it is two character designs, oi. Well, I hope to get some more ideas later.

It was also fun playing around with textures, and I took some advice from a tutorial here [link] They were some pretty simple techniques that I had already known about, but seeing an advanced artist use the same techniques... I guess it made me feel better about simple methods? Yup.
